In my opinion, since 2000 there has been a significant improvement of quality TV. There are great shows that fire on all cylinders. Great dialogue, great actors, great writing, great background. Just great.

Here’s my list of the best shows that showed up in the last 10 years.

10. Mad Men - Don Draper is the man
9. The Wire – Best cop drama in some time
8. Curb Your Enthusiasm – Maybe better than Seinfeld?
7. Breaking Bad – Makes you think about the choices you make.
6. The Office – The BBC version was slightly better, but the US still is great.
5. Dexter – A serial killer whose a pillar of the community. What’s not to like?
4. 30 Rock – I’d still date Tina Fey, even in HD.
3. The United States of Tara – Toni Collette is one of the greatest living actresses.
2. Arrested Development – I laugh every time I think about it.
1. Lost - I anticipate every second of this show. Very drug like.

I can’t think of any life saving qualities of DTV, but I do know that it has turned me into a digital snob.

That is, I can instantly tell the difference between a low resolution image and an high res image. I can barely enjoy the lower quality anymore. I’m sure in 10 years, the stuff I call high res will seem ancient, but those are the breaks of living with limited technology.

I did find a story out of Memphis that’s relatable. A man says all-digital TV saved his life. The man says he typically watched the boob tube in his bedroom, but only had one digital TV converter box, so he placed it on a TV in his kitchen. Just so happens, while he was watching TV in the kitchen, a tree fell on his bedroom, crushing the area where he used to sit.

Good for him. It’s stretching the “TV saved my life” story a bit, but who knows.

I want to know if 10 years from now whether my TV will have any brain re-energizing functions, to slow or stop the mush brains we’re all getting from junk reality TV shows. (I’m talking to you “I’m A Celebrity: Get Me Out Of Here“)

By then they better have the Adam TV channel up an running. I’ll program it with episodes of “Lost,” “The Amazing Race,” “30 Rock,” and any movie that doesn’t have Nicholas Cage in it.
