8 slices of cinnamon swirl bread

2 medium bananas, sliced thin

3 eggs

1/3 cup sugar

1 cup milk

3 tbsp flour

4 oz cream cheese

2 tsp vanilla

Heat oven to 350 (if baking that day).

Butter a square baking dish, place 4 slices of bread on bottom of dish, add sliced bananas and top with the other 4 slices of bread. In a blender, combine eggs, sugar, milk, flour, cream cheese and vanilla until smooth. Pour the mixture over the bread stack. Let stand for 5 minutes (or refrigerate overnight). Bake 40-45 minutes (or 50-55 minutes if cold). Let stand for 10 minutes. Cut into diagonal pieces. Top with powdered sugar and pure maple syrup!

The dog sitting weekend experiment went very, very well. So much so that I now want to keep Fletch’s dog (Pip) forever and ever amen. She was such a neat canine! Chilled to the point of me forgetting she was there a bunch of the time but ready to play if I was game. She’ll stay with us for close to two weeks soon and my whole family is totally excited. Sam liked taking her for walks, my husband liked playing with her (and her toys) and I enjoyed just petting and petting her.

I read an article a while back about two families who “shared” a dog. One was the primary residence but many days and nights were spent with the secondary family as well. I can certainly see how Pip can call our home her ‘home-away-from-home’ anytime!

Visited Vilas Zoo yesterday with my son Sam–always a great time leading to fantastic animal discussions. Like the giraffes. Seems they’ve begun to dust it up a bit. I believe the actual sign said they are currently separated because they’ve begun “to spar” with each other. We talked about it seriously at first then we just made up funny reasons for them to fight. Like what to watch on tv or what to order on their pizza.

The whole time we walked around I sang the theme song to New Zoo Revue. Trying to explain that 70s show to Sam was almost impossible. If you’ve never seen shows like H.R. Pufnstuf, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters and The Bugaloos…well, it’s hard to describe, isn’t it? But here’s the song itself, ready to worm its way into your brain today.

Finally discovered the secret to making a simple grilled cheese sandwich…GREAT! Last night, everyone in the Moore household got their own personalized version. For my husband, it was a slice of pepper jack and a slice of colby jack. For my son, it was two slices of colby jack. And for me, a slice of provolone and a slice of colby jack. (Think we like colby jack as a family or what?) Hand cut a loaf of italian bread and sliced a red onion for some inside the sandwich crunch.

But that isn’t the secret. No, the secret is a simple smear of cream cheese inside the sandwich on one slice of the bread. I like to use a chive cream cheese–goes nice with the red onion slices!

Saw an article in Good Housekeeping magazine about what your favorite kind of nut reveals about your personality. Scientists from the Smell & Taste foundation down the road in Chi-Town did the study with 1000 volunteers. The participants got a personality test and then a choice between five nut types. Which would you pick…salted peanuts, almonds, pecans, cashews or walnuts?

Walnuts say you’re competitive; cashews say you’re dependable and easygoing. Pecans say you’re generous and considerate; almonds denote high standards and show you’re motivated. And salted peanuts say you’re extroverted and charming.

Did your favorite nut match you?? I am a cashew lover myself and I’m very easygoing (plus dependable) so it’s right on target for me!

Did I mention Fletch’s first pitch? He who can throw a strike every time? Well, he knew my husband, son and father were sitting behind home plate watching us so he threw it hard and high right into the backstop! What a riot this guy I work with is. It was a trip and totally fun–couldn’t stop laughing.
