Time for the Dane County Humane Society’s annual fall FUNdraiser…Dogtoberfest!  Happening Sunday from 11-5 at the Capital Brewery’s outdoor beer garden in Middleton, Dogtoberfest is games, contests, live music and entertainment.  Bring your nice dog and $5–that’s what you’ll be giving directly to DCHS for the care of homeless animals in our area.

The tailwagging contest is at 11:30, hot dog eating is at 1, costume contest is at 2 and musical squares is at 3.  And there’s live music from The SoapBox Project and Mighty Short Bus throughout the event.  Don’t worry Packers fans…the game will be on as well!

This seems fitting.

A spoiler has been leaked that the new version of Hawaii Five-0 will feature Jimmy Buffett as a pilot.

From Entertainment Weekly:

Jimmy Buffett: Pilot in a tropical climate? Yeah, we’ll buy that.

EW has learned exclusively that the singer/songwriter/avid aviator will guest star in an upcoming episode of Hawaii Five-0. Buffett will play a veteran pilot who’s a pal of Lt. Commander Joe White (Terry O’Quinn), and he helps Five-0 rescue one of its own from a sticky situation.

The episode will air this November on CBS.

Very cool.  I’ll buy that too.  What’s weird is that the press picture that they’re using for Jimmy makes him look strikingly similar to Larry David of Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm fame.  Sounds like a pretty, prett-tay, prett-tay interesting coincidence to me.

Seemed to be a record year for my friends who grow their own tomatoes.  If you’re looking for a way to use up your high-yield, try this easy (and tasty!) recipe.

1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

1/2 cup grated parmesan/romano cheese blend

1/2 cup ricotta cheese

1/2 cup mayonnaise

1 tablespoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon each salt and minced garlic

4 large tomatoes

Combine everything but the tomatoes in a small bowl.  Cut each tomato into five slices and spread each slice with a tablespoon of the cheese mixture.  Broil, 3 inches from the heat, until the cheese mixture is golden brown and the tomatoes are heated throughout (about 3-5 minutes).

After taking his 1969 remake of the Ronettes “Baby, I Love You” into America’s Top 10 and hitting #1 as the co-writer of the Archie’s “Sugar Sugar”, Canada’s Andy’s Kim began what became the long slowdown to an eventual career halt on the music charts. In 1974 and without a recording deal, Andy spent his last penny to finance a recording session which produced what would become his biggest hit song ever, the #1 smash “Rock Me Gently”. As a side note, I’ve had the privilege as the host of some of Andy’s live concert appearances to getting to share time with him. Not only is he a wonderfully gifted entertainer and musician, Andy Kim is one of the kindest, most thoughtful and accessible people I’ve had the good fortune to meet. Please enjoy this video flashback of Andy performing “Rock Me Gently”.
