Movie Review: Machete
Rated R – 1h45Aye dios mio! When it comes to fun trashy movies, you don’t get much better than Machete. Heck, just saying the name is fun.Part action, part Spanish soap opera and a full dose of B-movie mockery Machete exceeds on just about every venture it sets out on. You’re taken on a [...]

Labor Day Weekend? Just Eat It.
I'm not the kid of grillmaster who would step in an tell another grillmaster what to do on his/her grill.  That is a clear violation of the grilling code of conduct.  Still, if you're going to be cooking out this Labor Day weekend, I found these tips on how to make your burger more like [...]

Improving Baseball, One Punch At A Time
I don't claim to be a huge fan of baseball. My allegiance actually lies with the fine sport of hockey.  That's why this major brawl between the Florida Marlins and the Washington Nationals last night caught my eye.I'm not saying they should allow bench clearing fights all the time, but it does make the game [...]

Just as good generics
Adam and I talked about coupon clipping on the air this morning and it lead to an off air discussion (with various listeners–thanks for your calls!) about generic versus brand name products.      There are certain things you are not willing to buy the generic form of...like toilet paper, for instance.  But a great number of you [...]

Ono. Not Again.
Just when I thought I was recovering from Yoko Ono nearly destroying "Double Fantasy" and The Plastic Ono Band's 20 minute performance piece of Yoko called "Don't Worry Mommy's only Looking For Her Hand In The Snow" (thank you Neil Butcher)...this comes along.I think I'm a pretty smart guy and I think I can tell [...]

Beer Me. No Really, It's Good For You
Finally, health experts have caught up to what I've been shouting out loud since college.  BEER IS GOOD FOR YOU.A new study suggests that drinkers, even heavy drinkers, tend to outlive those who abstain. "Moderate" drinkers, defined here as those who drink one to three glasses a day, were found to live [...]

Dancing with the Who?
ABC has a new cast of contestants for Dancing With The Stars (Adam likes to call it Dancing with the D-Listers).  Surprisingly, no one stands out as a shoo-in.  The playing field is pretty level for singer Michael Bolton, singer Brandy, comedian Margaret Cho, ex-NBA star Rick Fox, actress Jennifer Grey, actor David Hasselhoff, actress [...]

You're kidding right?!? The Badger Band ain't gonna be singing no ‘Viva Las Vegas'...Viva Lost Wages perhaps? They cannot afford to go to our season opener?!? 3 things on the road trip
Three things happened to me this weekend on our family road trip that never happen.  One, I got to drive!  My husband is suffering with allergies really bad this season (poor baby) and had to take a pill that made him sleepy.  So, I took over behind the wheel.  Two, we challenged ourselves to [...]

jimmy_buffett-1351Tomorrow is the big Jimmy Buffett concert.

One of the rules written the Parrothead constitution is the more the merrier.  Thus, if you don’t have tickets to the show tomorrow, I know how you can get a pair without paying insane ticket broker surcharges.  Head over to Cheeseburger In Paradise in Greenway Station from 5-7 tonight, where Fletch will have one last pair to giveaway.

But back to the theme of this week’s blogging.  Top Fives of  Jimmy Buffett.

Today is the list of Top Five Jimmy Buffett Songs that I try to emulate in my life or songs that already describe me.  (Heck, we even look a little alike)

5.  Rag Top Day
4.  Boat Drinks
3.  He Went To Paris
2. One Particular Harbor
1. School Boy Heart

Yeah!  My son Sam came cruisin’ home yesterday (on the Lake Express no less).  He thought it was pretty cool to do something neither his dad nor myself has ever done.  But apparently he did turn a tad green early in the ride.

He tried to give me the eye-roll-teenage-shrugging-of-the-shoulder thing when I saw him step off the boat.  By the time he walked to me, though, he had a big grin and let me lift him up in my arms.  Sweet, sweet boy.

Margarita Man - HappyJust two days until I head to Parrothead central, donning my boardshorts, lei, Hawaiian shirt and Buffett state of mind.

From what I’ve experienced in the past, I’m already grinning about the experience.  It’s making me chuckle.

My son Sam stayed in Michigan after the family reunion, to “visit with his cousins”.  He went to the Detroit Zoo yesterday with cousins Alex and Matty and he really got a kick out of the kangaroos.  Saw a joey and everything.  Today Sam is either playing with cousins Cameron and Caitlyn or swimming with cousins Emma, Mary and Izzy.  More than likely, he’ll do both.  He’s probably too busy to even think about missing his poor ol’ mother.

But his poor ol’ mother is certainly missing him!  He’s coming home tomorrow, on the Lake Michigan ferry no less, and my sister-in-law is then staying with us for a few days too.  I plan on scooping him up and smooching him silly.  I love that kid!

A quick trip to Detroit and back but totally worth it!  We saw everybody we’ve been missing at my husband’s family reunion.  All the brothers, sisters and cousins were there.  Smartly had it catered (delicious!) and the kids just had a blast.  Sam hooked up with his cousin Mitch and they played ball the whole time (seriously, like four hours).  The little girls hula-hooped (and the big girls tried to do it too).  Pretty relaxed event, weather was overcast but not rainy and the bugs didn’t bother us until late.

     All in all…grade A+
